We had the unique opportunity of taking our Ohio cousins, Sara (12) and Addison (10), with us on a week-long learning adventure in Chicago. Our RV park was an hour-and-a-half drive into the city, and our car made for five had to hold six, but the kids were good sports and made the trek each day without too many problems. We focused our time on museum, zoo and aquarium visits, spent an afternoon at an Earth Day festival, walked the city sidewalks, and stayed late to see Chicago lit up at night. Who says big cities aren't for kids!? |

"As we were walking downtown we were looking fore some modern sculpture. Sara spotted one and we had to find out who made it . We looked all around but we could not find out who made it. So we decided to play on it. After awhile, uncle Rob told us that we playing on a Piccaso sculpture." --Addison |

"17,000 buildings were burned in the Great Chicago Fire of 1871 and hundreds of people were killed. This was the biggest fire in American history. But the people of Chicago rebuilt their city. In 300 days they had built 3000 buildings."--Amanda |

"Watching the baby chicks hatch was my most favorite part of the Museum of Science and Industry. I even got to see one hatch! When they come out of the shell they are wet. Sometimes they have gooey stuff on them, and their shell sticks to them for a while until the chick is dry. One of the chicks that I saw hatch looked out of his shell, and then he climbed back into the shell! Did you know that it only takes a baby chick 21 days to be totally developed inside the egg?" -- Sara |

"This exhibit was very interesting to see. It was amazing to see the size of the baby at different stages. It's neat that there are so many things that have to happen in 9 months to come out the way we are. I think it is amazing that we can survive those hard 9 months! It was also sad, because if you think about it, the baby inside the case died at this age. They had babies all the way up to new born."--Sara |

"We saw the jet-propelled Spirit of America car that broke the land speed record 3 times. A later version, the Sonic 1, took the record two more times. The fastest it ever went was 600 miles per hour. They were both built and driven by Craig Breedlove, who bought his first car when he was 13 years old!"--Harrison |

While making a small metal rod to fix a broken clock, Jean Bernard-Leon Foucault accidentally proved that the earth rotates. He bumped the rod and it began swinging, and continued to swing along its original path as he rotated it. |

"We were in the primate section of the Lincoln Zoo and I walked up to the glass of this guy and he walked up to the glass and just started staring at me. I bet he was sort of frightened to see someone different just staring at him. He's not that much different than me!!!!"--Addison |

"The Nile Knife Fish is electric and was caught by the Egyptians. It appears in many ancient drawings."--Harrison |

"This was fun to see. What I am laying on is an old Egyptian bed. There are holes in it because it is hot at night in Egypt so it helps to ventilate the air and keep you cooler at night. But it wasn't very comfy!"--Sara |
